azure rippling seawater in sunset light appears like feminine energy

Humanity is diverse by nature, but there is one thing every single person on this planet is sharing: A particular balance in between masculine and feminine energy. I don’t know about you guys, but my world is often (or used to be anyway) stressful, fast-paced and, let’s face it, very masculine. The system we live in was made by men for men, living by a 24 hour hormonal cycle. Us women live by a 24 hour hormonal cycle, and a 28 day hormonal cylce. With an almost 25% change in brain chemistry in between ovulation and menstruation, our energy leve and emotional needs change heavily. So how can we, living in the world we’re living in, still remain connected and balanced within our feminine? And befor all the guys run away: Connecting with feminine energy is not only good for your own balance, but also for understanding your partners needs (LGBTQ) better. Complimenting each other and tuning into the other person is tied down to understanding their momentary expression and your own exigencies, and that’s why everybody should learn how to connect with feminine energy. So let’s get into it!

My 5 top ways to connect with my feminine energy

  1. Watch your cycle (yes guys, you also!)
While a mens cycle is mainly navigated by testosterone, a womens primary hormone is estrogen. For men, the testosterone level is high in the morning and slowly fades out towards the evening. The same thing happens day in and day out. This, for guys, should be the time to integrate, be creative, move and reconnect with a whole bunch of deeper layered emotions testosterone normally suppresses over the day.

For women, it’s a little bit more complicated. We are pretty much looking at four phases here, and all of them come with a different hormonal level. Knowing where your energy is the highest and where you should take time to rest gets you into a position of not beating yourself up anymore if you can’t keep up with gym or social goals.

The menstrual phase, the follicular phase, the ovulation phase, and the luteal phase are the four phases of the menstrual cycle. You will probably feel very well during the follicular and ovulation phases, so take advantage of these brief periods of motivation and optimism because they might not last for very long. This is when you should be organizing your social life, get the hard work done and rock your sessions at the gym. The body spends a lot of time in the luteal phase getting ready for the implantation of a fertilized egg. If you don’t get pregnant, premenstrual syndrome (PMS) can begin, since both progesterone and estrogen levels start to decline after their peak. In essence, this means that you’ll probably feel drained and angry.

Generally speaking, this can occur between days 22 and 24 of your cycle, and therefore it is more than normal if you are exceedingly unproductive during those days. The menstrual phase, also known as your period, follows. This period is about as enjoyable sounding as the thickened uterine lining removal from the body through the vagina. You can anticipate experiencing abrupt mood swings, sore breasts, cramps, migraines, lower back discomfort, and increased weariness as your progesterone and estrogen levels decline. This is the time of the month to stay at home, rest, integrate, be creative and work on all those things that don’t require much mental clarity.
  2. Rest and Digest
In the modern-day world, we are all expected to function like robots. This stability and consistency is great, but does not align with the flowing creativity of the feminine. The feminine is all about the senses, is all about movement and curiosity. Take time to rest once a week, switch of your phone, and simply ask yourself the question: What do I want right now? Get yourself pleasure food, start that painting, go for that walk in nature or take your time for the long wanted talk with that dear friend. Take it slow, and enjoy the moment by stepping out of a goal-oriented perspective. Not everything needs an outcome (very masculine) but some things are just meant to be flowing in the moment.
  3. Intuitive Movement
The feminine moves, and it moves erratically. Get on your Yoga mat, and follow whatever your body guides you to do. Where do you need to stretch? Where do you need attention? Turn on some music and dance while you cook. Take a walk and go wherever your feet carry you. This is not about working out, this is about paying attention to your bodies needs and allowing it to move free from rules, guidelines and frameworks. Do some breathing, and give it some sound. Release that stuck energy. I swear to you, do this 5 mins a day, and you’ll have so much more clarity. Why? Because you balance out your energies.
  4. Playfulness
Besides all movement and creation, the feminine is eager to explore. She needs new input, and she also needs to reconnect to a healthy expression of your inner child. Be silly, get some belly laughter, be naughty or simply play a game you used to play as a child. Build a sandcastle, paint your face, craft something or go for a session of Uno or Mario Kart with someone. In a world full of serious choices, it is what we need the most: More play. So many people take far too many things so serious, and so personal. Stepping away from that allows your feminine side to blossom. Playfulness is also connected to your sensuality: Taking away the performance pressure and simply perceiving reality as a game. What can you explore and try next? Play to connect with feminine energy, and drop that facade of the serious adult. There is a little kid in all of us.
  5. Sisterhood
Last but not least: Connect with sisters. For men, it is particularly healthy to spend time with women they are not romantically involved with. Their perception of reality draws out the feminine in any men, and allows them to drop guards they can simply not drop in front of other men or even their partners. For us women, it is sisterhood. Go and join womens circles. Being intimate and close in a non-sexual way with other women brings out the beautiful connection we have to so many women around us. First attending and later holding womens circles really got me into a space of becoming so connected with other sisters. I now hold such strong connections to all of them I know: When I fall, they catch me. If the experience of sisterhood is something that calls you, join us on our womens circle facilitator training in February in Bali.
